Recycle Energy Sdn Bhd (RESB) is the brainchild of a private-funded ie Core Competencies Sdn Bhd.
The award-winning technology is owned by Core Competencies Sdn. Bhd, and has been developed according to the globally recognized principles of; Best Available Technology not Entailing Excessive Cost (BATNEEC); Best Practical Environmental Option (BPE) and Principle of Proximity (POP).
RESB has began pioneering the use of green technology to generate energy from their RRC/WtE plant, in Semenyih, Selangor 8 years ago.
The RRC/WtE plant has a design capacity to process 1000MT of MSW per day, operating 4 lines, at 12 tons per hour per line and the Power Plant has a maximum production capacity of 8.9MW per hour of green energy produced from the 700 tons of MSW they process a day from Kajang Municipality and neighbouring areas.
5.5 MW per hour of green energy produced from the power plant will be exported to TNB while the remaining of 3.4 MW is used in-house to power all the plants’s utilities, including the recycling and processing plant.
RESB’s vision and KPI is to REUSE 80% of incoming waste and REDUCE and DISPOSE of only 20% of all incoming waste as inert material in the form of ASH to sanitary landfills and thus extending the lifespan of Sanitary Landfills by 5 times.
This initiative culminated in the signing of a Renewable Energy Power Purchase Agreement (REPPA) with TNB in 2004, which gives the company approval to supply 5 .5 Megawatts (MW) of electricity per hour to the national grid.
An engineered fuel is produced from the processed MSW for the power plant received from Kajang’s MSW. This fuel reduces the dependency on the traditional fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas, which are normally used in generating power in power plants. It reduces dependence on these precious and finite fossil fuels by offering a renewable and sustainable alternative.
Apart from reducing dependence on fossil fuels, the technology also reduces the need to use landfills to dump the waste. This in turn, reduces the amount of methane gas being released into the environment normally generated at landfills. It also prevents the high levels of leachate found in Malaysian MSW from seeping into rivers.
RRC/WtE technology has reduced dependence on landfills as the only means of waste disposal and frees up valuable municipal land for other uses. It has the potential to revolutionize the management and disposal of MSW in Malaysia and the region.

What MPKj should do?
The technology can help to overcome the problem of garbage disposal. In the early stage of using the technology, there are many objections from local residents that claiming the toxic fumes can cause disease. This issue still persists until today.
However, the MPKj not display this information is MPKj website.
What should be do is:
- Displays information on the website
- Printing of brochures related to garbage and recycling issues
- Provide recycling campaigns more effective
MPKj should be more proactive in overcoming the current issues and the issues arising in order to avoid prolonged or repeated contact.
I think the MPKj should reveal is strategic planning how to overcome this issue.
